IT'S ALIVE !

DURING THE INITIAL INSTALLATION OF THE KLUNE-V 4:1 BOX, I ENCOUNTERED A FEW ISSUES AND MANY DELAYS (ON MY END). THE ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED BUY THE PEOPLE AT KLUNE IN A MANNER THAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS

WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND.

DURING ONE OF MY CONVERSATIONS WITH THE FOLKS AT KLUNE, I WAS ASKED IF I HAD CONSIDERD THE 2.72:1 KLUNE-V. I DID THE SPREADSHEET THING AND A COUPLE OF MY FRIENDS SAID "WOW, WHAT A GREAT GEAR SPREAD!". IT DOES GIVE YOU THREE VERY USABLE LOW RANGES (SEE PLAN "B" BELOW). THAT IS WHAT I ENDED-UP WITH.

I LOVE IT!

BACKGROUND

GRSII

THE UP SIDE

I HAVE BEEN USING A GRSII FROM PETROWORKS. IT HAS PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY FOR YEARS.  IT OFFERS A GREAT CRAWL  RATIO (4.89:1 LOW RANGE) ABOUT 80:1 OVERALL WITH 4.56 AXLE GEARING. POWER WAS NEVER AN ISSUE OFF ROAD.

THE DOWN SIDE

THE GRSII IS NOISY. I DID A LOT OF SOUND PROOFING, USED EAR PLUGS AND GENERALLY GOT USED TO IT.  HIGH RANGE IS ALSO LOWER THAN A STOCK T-CASE. THIS MAKES THINGS VERY BUSY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.  WITH THE LARGER ENGINE,  I DON'T NEED THE GEARING ON THE ROAD.

OVERALL

THE GRSII IS A GREAT T-CASE.

THE KLUNE-V

THE KLUNE-V  IS A 4:1 PLANETARY GEAR SET THAT FITS BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE T-CASE. IT TAKES THE PLACE OF THE SHORT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT.

IT WILL ALLOW THE USE OF THREE LOW RANGES

THE STOCK T-CASE LOW RANGE (ABOUT 30:1 OVERALL)

THE KLUNE-V IN LOW WITH THE T-CASE IN HIGH RANGE (ABOUT 90:1 OVERALL)

AND THE KLUNE-V IN LOW WITH THE T-CASE IN LOW RANGE (ABOUT 150:1 OVERALL).

WITH A STOCK TRANSFERCASE

WHAT'S BEEN DONE SO FAR

THE ORIGINAL T-CASE HAD LOTS OF MILES HAD STRANGE NOISES AND WAS PRETTY MUCH AN UNKNOWN.

GOT A REBUILD KIT FROM PETROWORKS.  DISASSEMBLED DEGREASED AND REASSEMBLED THE STOCK T-CASE USING NEW BEARINGS SEALS ETC.

INSTALLED THE KLUNE-V TO T-CASE ADAPTER TO THE T-CASE. I USED THE ALIGNMENT TOOL PROVIDED WITH THE KLUNE-V . THE WHOLE PROCESS WAS SIMPLE AND FAIRLY QUICK.  INSTRUCTIONS ARE CLEAR AND COMPLETE

MOUNTED THE KLUNE-V TO THE ADAPTER . THINGS ARE REALLY MOVING.  ALL EASY AND STRAIGHT FORWARD.

NEXT

I am in the process of relocating right now, so final installation wont be until mid October.

Got busy, should finish around first of the year.

Check back then.........

Try mid April

Hump Modifications

Sorry About The Colors. I Used What I Had Handy To Cover The Bare Edges.

My Samurai Was Just About The Right Height For Me To Wrestle The (Two) Gearboxes In Place. If It Was Higher Or Lower, I Think You Would Need A Transmission Jack. Its Not A Casual Job Like Just The Transfercase.

Follow The Directions In Sequence. It Was Well Thought Out.

Everything Lined-Up And Fit..No Suprises!

I have had this on the streets & trails for a quite a while now and have confidence in the system.

When I received the 2.72:1 KLUNE-V, things went smooth except for time spent getting the t-case shifter to fit between the oversized seats that I cant live without (It had to go where the dog buscuit was).

Many thanks to Luke at KLUNE-V.

It's my daily driver to and from work.

I have had it on long (1,000 mile) road trips.

Been on serious off-road trips.

It's GREAT!
